Express Mail Configuration
|
Pre-Requisites
Please do NOT try and progress through the setup instructions below until you have tested your internet connection. Without a reliable, working internet connection you will not be able to pickup your email! Many problems we see stem from trying to setup the Iridium connection AND the email software at the same time - and when it doesn't work you have twice as many problems to figure out!
Before you go any further verify that you can dial the internet reliably and open up a small web page without any trouble, eg: http://www.google.com
Login Details
Your username and password are supplied by MailASail. If you have lost them, (or need to create an account), then please contact: support@mailasail.com
These login details are required to access the system from both your email program and also if you are in an internet cafe and logging in via the webmail at: http://www.mailasail.com/webmail

Configuring Outlook Express Automatically Using Express Mail
- Double click the small "red boat" icon down by the clock, and then in the dialog which appears choose "Tools | Setup Outlook Express" and follow the instructions. You will be prompted to enter your MailASail account User Name
- That's it! Now connect to the internet and send us a test message so that we can check everything is working.
If you have already configured Outlook Express previously, then the automatic setup will detect this and just offer to modify/repair the settings for use with Express Mail. This is useful if you suspect that the settings have become corrupted for any reason.
Configuring Email Programs Manually (With Compression)
If you are using an email program other than Outlook Express or don't want to use the automatic setup process then you will need to configure everything manually. These instructions are written with Microsoft Outlook 2003 in mind, but are should be useful no matter which email program you are using.
- Fire up Microsoft Outlook and click "Tools" menu and then click "Email Accounts".
- We want to create a new account, so click "Add a new..." option and then , then choose type "POP".
- The next few steps ask you easy questions like: your name, email address, name of your email servers and user name+ password.
Make sure that you get the username and password correct and the server names are exactly the same as shown below.
incoming server: localhost
outgoing server: localhost
THIS BIT IS IMPORTANT OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEND MAIL
- Click the "More Settings" button, and change to the "Outgoing Servers" tab. [In Outlook Express you have to finish the wizard setup process and then go back in and edit the server details again, and change to the "Servers" tab]
- On this screen there is a check box called "My server requires Authentication", make sure that this is selected (ie has an "X" in it). Otherwise you will be able to retrieve mail, but not send it.
Problems
Many problems are due to Internet connectivity issues (ie lack of). The first test you should do is to try and connect to the internet, then use a web browser (Internet Explorer) to go to a fast, reliable web page such as http://www.google.com - once this works then, without dropping the connection, try and access your email.
If you can prove that you can access web pages, but cannot access your email then please send a request for more help to: support@mailasail.com (either use your existing email account or log into our webmail system from the front page)
Please make sure that you tell us:
- The exact text of any error messages that you can see. Whilst we agree that they often look quite cryptic they do in fact contain important information that we need in order to figure out what is wrong with your configuration.
- Also remember to include basic information like what version of Windows you are using, which email program, how you are dialing into the internet, etc.
